On October 2nd, INCITE participated in an event hosted by Cefic (The European Chemical Industry Council) to promote and publicly support INCITE: “How can INCITE support innovation in the chemical industry?”, that brought together experts from the European Commission, industry leaders, and innovators to explore how it can accelerate the uptake of breakthrough technologies across the sector.
Cefic reinforced that the chemical industry plays a dual role in Europe’s competitiveness and sustainability, and that INCITE is designed to accelerate the uptake of innovative technologies needed to reach climate, circularity, resource efficiency and zero pollution ambitions.
Jose Gonzalez (INCITE) presented the benefits to industry of connecting with INCITE and the ongoing works and expected outcomes for the chemical sector
Key takeaways from the workshop included:
* European Commission is supporting industrial transformation through targeted initiatives such as INCITE.
* Importance of collaboration between all stakeholders to overcome barriers and scale up innovation.
* Showcasing innovative techniques through INCITE allows for visibility which can help attract outside funding, Identify deployment barriers and help shape future policy and funding priorities.
Research project examples from Essencia & Tectero B: Sustainable water use in the chemical sector – CherisH2O project & Nonthermal plasma applications in green chemistry showcased real-world applications and the challenges innovators face in scaling up.
